We learnt what a botanist does and had a go at being a botanist for the day. We investigated the different parts of a flower by pulling it apart. We drew a variety of flowers using water colours and oil pastels. We created flowers using petals and craft materials and playdough.
Finding 9 and 10, sorting dominoes into three groups; less than 9, more than 9 and 9, subitising up to 9 and explain how they see it and using a 10 frame to make 9.
The children could recognise there are 4 different seasons and name them and describe the differences.
The children explored length by sorting objects- long and short.

Space- Weaving paper to make Earth
Space- The Solar System.
We have been focussing on the numbers 6,7,8 this week and we will continue next week. We have started off by subitising and telling an adult or a friend how many dots there are and how they see it. The children have been practicing this skill for example, "I can see 3 and 3 and I know that makes 6." This helps with finding the composition of a number- looking at a number and finding different ways you can make the number. Lastly, the children played around with number ordering and we talked about one more and one less of each number.
This week we started off by using the balance scales to compare mass between 2 different objects. This was explored in play. Once familiar with the balance scales the children enjoyed finding the 'balance' in the scales. The children used cubes to balance against an object. After, we explored capacity with the water tray with a variety of containers.
Many children safely peeled the carrots and potato's for our soup. Tasting- the children said the soup was delicious.
Squares and Rectangles
This week the children explored shapes with 4 sides.
This week we have started to focus on the numbers 1,2,3.

Self-Portraits
Pete the Cat: Rocking in my school shoes
A brilliant story that introduces the children to school life with a catchy tune. The children loved Pete and enjoyed painting, drawing, cutting and modelling him.
