Datchet St Mary's CofE Primary Academy

Friendship, Love, Compassion, Honesty, Forgiveness, Resilience and Equality

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2.

The class teacher is Mrs Gilchrist.

Mrs Clark and Mrs Wilson are the class teaching assistants.

Today the children enjoyed learning all about Christmas at the Christmas Exhibition

We enjoyed performing our Christmas Nativity ‘The Fleece Patrol’ to all our friends and families. Remember “we are watching, so learn to behave. Or you’re nicked!!!”

To support our topic on The Romans, Year 2 visited Ufton Court. We enjoyed spending the day pretending to be Romans. We learnt all about Roman military moves, crime and punishment and also got to try different traditional Roman jobs.

In English we have started reading the book The Dragon Machine. We learnt that Dragons hide in plain sight. To test this theory we decided to go dragon spotting around school before writing our own guides to spotting dragons.

We enjoyed taking part in our first Interhouse Competition of the year. Lead by our school Sports Leaders we had to complete a timed shuttle run and jumping activity. We will try to beat our scores again in the summer

Today Year 2 got to watch the fantastic Beauty and the Beast Pantomime with the rest of the school

Today we enjoyed showing our seascape pictures inspired by William Turner in assembly

This week in Art the children had to use natural materials and try to use symmetry like Andy Goldsworthy's work.

In English we have been thinking about features of a story. Today we discussed what made a good story opener and became story opener detectives.

In science we have been learning all about the human body. Today we discussed hygiene and germs. We carried out a science experiment using glitter to show how easily germs can spread.

In Computing, we have been learning all about IT in the world around us. Today we pretended to be ‘barcodes’ , ‘scanners’ and ‘tills’ to understand how the three different areas of IT work together.

Year 2 enjoyed leading Harvest Festival at church this morning by explaining the history of Harvest.

For PE this term, the children are learning Rugby Skills led by a coach from The London Irish Rugby Foundation.
